Play! by Sephora – January 2018

Hi, guys! Today I’m sharing what I received in Play! by Sephora’s January box. It’s the first box of the year and overall a pretty good one! For anyone that doesn’t know, Play! by Sephora is a monthly beauty subscription box. It’s $10 USD, contains 5 deluxe samples, one sample and a bag. Products vary per month and per person but they are always from brands sold at Sephora, such as Smashbox, tarte, Urban Decay, Fresh and more. You can receive skincare, haircare and (mostly) cosmetics, it just depends on your Play! by Sephora profile. You can check out other variations of January’s box by clicking here. You can learn more about Play! by clicking here.

The bag:

This months bag is so cute! Happy You Year everyone! This image is of course cropped but it has a blue ribbon drawstring matching the “Happy YOU Year” banner.

I’ve seen a lot of people lately ‘complain’ about the bags but I really don’t see a problem with them. You’re paying $10 for 5 deluxe samples and a sample, not a bag. They are a lot better than in the first few months of Play!. These aren’t bags that I use daily but they are really nice for storing makeup, to throw in your purse, etc.

The pamphlet:

I rarely post the pamphlet but this was too cute not to. As always, they describe the products, how to use them, all that fun stuff. On the front, they include “monthly challenges” such as treating your hair, mask more, eat green, etc. Of course, there is the 50 points Play! Pass, as always (not pictured).

I’ve only tried one other item from ABH and I’m so excited that I received this. The shade is beautiful, the swatch doesn’t do it justice. I am actually shocked they are referring to this as a ‘lip gloss’ because it is glossy but so opaque! I am definitely going to be using this in upcoming tutorials and experimenting it with other colors.

GLAMGLOW – SUPERCLEANSE™ Clearing Cream-to-Foam Cleanser $32.00 USD

“Which skin type is it good for?
✔ Normal

What it is:

– Acne and Blemishes
– Oiliness
– Pores

If you want to know more…
Formulated with powerful actives for super-clean, glowing skin, this must-have creamy cleanser transforms into a luxurious foam to blast away impurities and remove pore-clogging debris. The pore refining triple charcoal complex contains three charcoals—coconut, ubame white oak, and gray bamboo—to detox skin, while botanical ingredients like TEAOXI® eucalyptus leaf, licorice root, and cumin seed purify. Skin-refining, powerful AHAs support natural cell turnover and renewal, while K17 and Mediterranean clays absorb oils to mattify skin and restore balance to your complexion. Skin is visibly improved after each cleanse, with a diminished appearance of pores and a refined texture and tone.”

Everyone received this item. I am so excited to try this! The cream to foam claim is really intriguing to me, so I’m looking forward to seeing if that’s true. I am a bit concerned to see sensitive unlisted under “Which skin type is it good for?”, the last cleanser they sent really broke me out so fingers crossed this is better!

CLINIQUE – Pep-Start Eye Cream $26.50 USD

Everyone received this item. They sent me an eye cream last box which was amazing so I have high hopes for this one! I’ve always wanted to try this eye cream, so happy I received this.

Smashbox – Photo Finish Primerizer $42.00 USD for a Standard Size

IMG_3252

“Which skin type is it good for?
✔ Normal
✔ Oily
✔ Combination
✔ Dry

What it is:
A face primer and moisturizer in one that delivers 24-hour hydration and powerful primer benefits in the lightest possible texture.

Solutions for:
– Dryness
– Dullness and uneven texture
– Fine lines and wrinkles

If you want to know more…
Primerizer instantly increases moisture and preps skin for makeup in one step. The non-greasy, quick-dry formula sets in seconds, acting as a makeup magnet that locks on foundation and makes it last. It plumps and moisturizes with niacinamide (which improves skin’s vitality and barrier repair) and hyaluronic acid (a molecule that holds water within the skin to prevent moisture loss). Primerizer also smooths skin, softens dry fine lines, and stops makeup from settling into pores.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Phthalates”

I am really looking forward to trying this item because of the description online, but I am disappointed with the packaging. It is so small and looks like it would be hard to get the product out, plus there isn’t a ton of product. Nevertheless, I’m looking forward to testing it.

Fresh – Rose Floral Toner $40.00 USD

Plus, its mist applicator makes it ideal for setting makeup and refreshing the skin throughout the day.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens

What else you need to know:
“The rose truly represents beauty. It’s beautiful to look at, beautiful to smell, and has all these beautiful benefits. I’ve been wanting to try a new toner out for a while now and I love the Fresh Rose Mask, so I’m so excited to use this! It smells exactly like roses and the claims sound amazing.

What else you need to know:
This product is free of silicones, DEA, and artificial dyes. It is cruelty-free, color-safe, and safe for use on chemically-treated, relaxed, and keratin-treated hair.”

This month I received a hair sample instead of the normal perfume. Normally I prefer the perfume sample but I’ve had my eyes on this mask for quite some time. I’ve already used this mask and I adore it! My hair has been very dry at the ends this winter and I noticed a lot of hydration being restored. It also enhanced my curls, which is always a great thing. The day after using this I pretty much had the best hair day ever! I will definitively be getting a full size of this soon.

Overall I am really happy with this box! Looking at other boxes online, I would have preferred to get the MUFE blush or Becca’s Liquid Highlight instead of Smashbox’s Primerizer, but otherwise, I’m happy with it and can’t wait to try everything out. As always, I will be posting a follow-up review in 2 weeks.

  2. Kristen is my favourite gloss of all time!! I’m going to need to repurchase it soon! That tells you something lol. Seems like a good bag this month. Why oh why haven’t they brought this to Canada yet 😩

      1. Yes hopefully! I bugged them on Twitter a couple months ago but they said they had no plans currently on expanding into Canada. Don’t you want my money!?! Lol

  3. I was kind of eh on the eye cream when I bought it for myself about a year ago. Let me know what you think so I can decide I’m in insane or not 😂

      1. I didn’t dislike it, I just wasn’t wowed if I remember correctly. I have to use eye creams for the elderly though because my under eyes are scaly and crease horribly from lack of moisture, so it could be that I’M the problem here 😀

  4. I’ve used that rose toner and I really like it! The gloss is gorgeous and I hope that eye cream is good too! You’ll have to let me know about the hair mask, I’ve had my eye on it too! 😬
