January Favorites 2018 + Makeup Breakup

Hi, guys! We are officially one month and two full moons into 2018. I hope everyone’s year is off to a great start! For me, it felt pretty much the same as recent months but I do think I have been more productive and I have pretty much gotten out of my Blogmas hangover (aka writers/artists block). I also feel like I’ve been doing a lot of really good makeup recently, which I’m excited about. My latest post, Tutorial: Lady Gaga Grammys 2018, for example. I absolutely love that makeup, it might be my all time favorite I’ve done, and I think I did a really good job with it. I’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback from it, also, Marc Jacobs Beauty and Lady Gaga’s makeup artist liked it on Instagram! Totally freaked out.

Anyway, enough chit-chat here’s what I’m loving this month. 🙂

Maybelline – Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder

I purchased this earlier in the month for Collab: Five First Impressions! and I absolutely love it! Since discovering this I have not reached for any other loose powder and I think that says something. It sets your makeup, really prevents creasing, smoothes the skin texture, prevents oiliness and I have never seen a flashback with it. It’s so lovely! A fellow blogger mentioned it ran a bit dark so I picked up Fair Light which is the perfect shade (for me) to set the T-Zone and undereye area. This powder ranges in price but I got it for around $5.99 USD which is a steal, this works better than a lot of higher end powders I’ve tried. I can’t recommend this enough!

Urban Decay – Naked Smoky Eyeshadow Palette

This palette has recently been discontinued BUT it is being sold by third parties, such as Nordstrom Rack. They also have a palette similar to this, Smoked Eyeshadow Palette. Anyway, I say that to say I love this palette and highly recommend buying this while you can if you like smokey colors and essential neutrals. I won this in a giveaway and was so excited because this isn’t a palette I would normally go for. I will say I dislike the brush but overall I love the eyeshadows. They work great and I’ve found myself reaching for them often.

Dermal Korea Collagen Essence Full Face Facial Mask Sheet, 16 Combo Pack

I received these as a Christmas gift and I’ve loved them! Collagen is one of my favorite skincare ingredients and these masks are lovely. I received the 16 combo pack and there is such a variety! From soothing to tightening, they’ve got you covered. These are extra great since it’s winter time and my skin just wants to be dry, right after using these my skin looks so refreshed and hydrated.

Kat Von D – Sinner Eau de Parfum

I love this fragrance! I received a sample when I bought KVD’s concealer and powder duo, wasn’t a fan of Saint or Sinner, then received another sample around Thanksgiving and fell in love! Not quite sure why there was a difference but anyway, I adore this fragrance so much. The only ‘issue’ I have with it is it’s not that long lasting, it starts fading after about 3 hours.

From Sephora.com:

Fragrance Family:
Warm & Spicy

Scent Type:
Cool Spices

Key Notes:
Patchouli, Wood, Cinnamon

Kat Von D Beauty’s most requested collection of all time is returning at last and better than ever. Meet Sinner—dark, sultry, and empowering, this enticing fragrance sweetens a bouquet of jasmine and orange blossom with notes of vanilla, mandarin, and Mirabelle plum. Spicy cinnamon envelops white florals at the heart of the fragrance, while base notes of vetiver, patchouli, and wood form the deeper, darker nuances. Experience confidence in a bottle; Sinner is the fragrant embodiment of the edgy, unapologetic, and outspoken Kat Von D we know and love.”

I love perfumes like YSL’s Black Opium, Marc Jacobs Decadence, and Marc Jacobs Daisy. If you like any of those, I would differently give this a go!

Perfect Formula – Nail Essentials Duo

I asked for this duo for Christmas because for me this is one of those items I always see, always want, but would never buy. I’ve always wanted to try this because my nails are quite thin and want to break if I grow them longer. I did gel nails for a few months, which I loved, but the salon I went to really damaged my nails, made them thinner and they actually became painful. I’ve been using the pink gel coat for about three weeks and it’s really saved my nails! I do about two coats and I’m left with what looks like a french manicure. This has made my nails healthier, thicker, and I feel like they’ve grown longer. The pink coat does chip but not that much and you can barely tell when it does, plus you can recoat at any time.

As far as the clear gel coat goes, it’s fine. I did my nails about five days ago and there has been quite a bit of chipping, definitely time for a change of color. I really don’t see myself repurchasing the clear when it runs out but I’m glad I received it because I’m always needing a new clear coat. I always see myself having the pink gel because of how healthy it’s made my nails and it just looks beautiful. If you have any trouble with your nails, like them being thin or unhealthy, I can’t recommend this enough! Even if you have healthy nails I think this duo would be great for you because the pink gel looks beautiful on any nail and it’s so effortless.

From IMDb.com:

“Sam, an 18-year-old on the autism spectrum, decides it’s time to find a girlfriend, a journey that sets Sam’s mom on her own life-changing path as her son seeks more independence.”

This is a great show that I highly recommend to anyone. There’s only one season with a handful of episodes, you could watch them all in one day easy, but there is a new season coming soon.

From IMDb.com:

“Explores the high-pressure experiences of police, paramedics and firefighters who are thrust into the most frightening, shocking and heart-stopping situations. They must try to balance saving people with solving problems in their own lives.”

I rarely like shows like these but the writing is so good and there’s a ton of suspense in each episode. There are only a few episodes but they are all really good, you could probably find them on demand.

I. love. this. book.

I’ve had it for quite some time and never read it. Recently another blogger recommend it and I’ve been reading it since! I have about 15 pages left to finish but I can say this has definitely become a favorite. I’m not going to give you any spoilers, I can just say it’s great and completely worth the read.

I actually don’t have a makeup breakup this month. Yay! So I’ll turn this over to you, what makeup item are you breaking up with this month? What are you loving? Let me know in the comments!

  1. The naked smokey is the only palette I don’t have from UD cause I don’t wear that much make up on a daily bases but it looks so pretty and the packaging is to die for!

  3. Ugh, I hate that I didn’t get to read this post until today! But I’ve been loving the fit me powder as well! I wish I liked the UD palettes, they just don’t do anything for me. 😭

      1. Yesss, I love the powder! I know I hate it too! I want the Naked Heat, but I don’t like any of the other Naked palettes. 🙄
