Play! by Sephora – February 2018

Hi, guys! I hope you all are having a great weekend. I received this months box yesterday and – as always – wanted to show you guys what I received! Let me know what you think about these products or if you’ve tried any in the comments!

This months bag and pamphlet:

This months bag is quite cute, it is white with a pink ribbon with a red heart on the front. Under the heart is says “Feel the love”. The pamphlet – I love! This obviously has Valentine’s day/products to love theme. On the outside it has sayings like “Your eyeliner is a work of art”, “You are a good friend and your eyebrows are amazing”, “your friendship makes me feel the way highlighter makes me look’ and my favorite, “lipsticks are red, lipsticks are blue, here is a shade that made me think of you”. They do mention that they sent two lip products, one for use and one for a friend. As always there is a pass for 50 Beauty Insider points that can be redeemed for samples and other products.

The products:

belif – Moisturizing Eye Bomb $48.00 USD.

From Sephora.com:

“What it is:
A lightweight, refreshing eye cream that smooths fine lines with a 26-hour burst of moisture, boosts elasticity, and increases the resilience of the skin for flawless makeup application.

Solutions for:
– Dryness
– Loss of firmness and elasticity
– Fine lines and wrinkles”

Normally I’d think it’s a bit weird and repetitive that this is the third eye cream I’ve received in a row but I’ve been wanting to try this eye cream forever. I tried belif’s True Cream Aqua Bomb a few months ago and loved it so I’m quite excited to see how it works for me as I do have high hopes for this!

Laura Mercier – Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Rose Gold, $29.00 USD.

From Sephora.com:

What it is:
A long-lasting, creamy eyeshadow stick that can also line, highlight, and create smoky looks.

What it does:
This multitasking eyeshadow stick delivers both easy application and high-definition, long-lasting color. Long-wearing, transfer-proof, and crease-resistant, the color glides seamlessly onto lids and blends and layers beautifully with a rich pigment-payoff. It features a myriad of shades and finishes to deliver endless options for an effortlessly beautiful eyes that stand out both day and night.”

This is an item I’m a bit disappointed to receive. A month or two ago I received a nude shade of this cream, and about six months to a year ago I received this exact shade.  They are lovely to work with but they know I’ve received this before, I don’t know why I would get it again. It is a very nice shade, nice to work with like I said, but I don’t find myself reaching for it. I’ll definitely start using it more for inner corner/brow bone highlighting.

These are very nice, I just wish I received a different color.  I did reach out to Sephora and they are issuing me a refund because of this and an issue with the lipstick mentioned next.

SEPHORA COLLECTION – Rouge Matte Lipstick in Rebel Chic, $12.50 USD, currently on sale for $7.00 USD.

From Sephora.com:

What it is:
An ultra-matte lipstick that provides long-lasting moisture and intense pigment.

What it does:
This ultra-matte lipstick delivers bold color, intense moisture, and incredible comfort. Enriched with shea butter and rich emollients, the formula moisturizes and soothes lips, while depositing super matte color and blurring lip imperfections. And unlike some matte lipsticks, this one never feels cakey or dry on your lips. Ever.”

I was so excited when I saw this in my bag! I’ve tried other lip products from Sephora Collection and loved them. I opened this, began to twist it up and the lipstick bullet itself practically jumped out of the case and landed on the floor.

It arrived broken/not properly sealed. It’s so disappointing because the color looks so nice! I might try to sanitize it but it just seems to be more trouble than it’s worth. I have contacted Sephora and they are giving me a refund which I really appreciate. This is really the first box I’ve received that has ever had a repeat or broken products and I’ve been subscribed for almost two years. Sometimes stuff just happens!

NARS – Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Let’s Go Crazy, $27.00 USD.

From Sephora.com:

What it is:
A cult-favorite, matte lip pencil that instantly delivers the impact of a matte lipstick with the spontaneity of a pencil.

What it does:
The NARS Velvet Pencil ensures that lips are instantly saturated with rich, vivid pigments and a velvety matte finish. Its jumbo size provides the application of a lipstick with the convenience of an artist pencil, and the tapered end is perfect for lining, defining, and filling in lips. Its non-drying formula is enriched with vitamin E and emollients for a creamy texture, while a blend of unique silicones ensures long-lasting, seamless matte color for hours. Just pair it with another lip product for added dimension or as a tinted base. Whether it’s soft and neutral or bold and edgy, this lip pencil is ideal for making a lip statement.”

I am really excited to try this shade! I picked up a duo of these lip pencils when Sephora offered it as a birthday gift. I really loved the shades and formula of them so I can’t wait to try this one out.

Peter Thomas Roth – FIRMx™ Peeling Gel, $48.00 USD.

From Sephora.com:

What it is:
A unique peeling gel that visibly exfoliates by rolling, lifting, and sweeping away when massaged onto the skin as a result of physical and enzymatic mechanisms.

Solutions for:
– Dryness
– Dullness and uneven texture
– Pores”

I’ve never tried anything from Peter Thomas Roth but I’ve heard such amazing things so I can’t wait to try this out! You get 15mL/0.5 oz, which I think is a huge sample. I’m going to have my mom try this with me and her thoughts will be posted with mine in the follow-up review. Also, so happy this is safe for sensitive skin! The last few cleansers/masks haven’t been.

This Month’s Bonus: Atelier Cologne – Vanille Insensée Cologne Absolue Pure Perfume, $26.00 USD for 0.34 oz/ 10 mL

From Sephora.com:

“Vanille Insensée, an electrical current runs through the subtle sweetness of vanilla, jasmine, and fresh lime to bond with rich oak moss, woods, and spicy coriander. Complete with a handcrafted leather cap and a removable pump that allows for splash or spray use, this cologne brings to mind breathtaking and magical moments.

Notes:
Lime, Cedrat, Coriander, Jasmine, Vetiver, Oak Moss, Vanilla, Oak Wood, Amber.
Style:
Magical. Evocative. Electric.”

I’m not a fan of this cologne, it smells very heavy and kind of gives me a headache. But the postcard is lovely and I do enjoy the other scents I’ve smelled from Atelier.0.

Overall I am happy with this months box! I’m bummed about the lipstick and eye stick but Sephora did resolve the issue – with so much stuff going on in the world, that is seriously small potatoes. Let me know what you think of this box, products, or anything else! I hope you all have a lovely Sunday!

  1. The eye cream sounds lovely! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts. The only reason I haven’t signed up for Sephora play is because of the repeats. I’ve heard so many complaints about repeats or similar items. I just don’t want to have a pile of similar samples laying around.

    1. Yes, I can’t wait to see how it works out! I’ve been subscribed for around 2 years and this is the first time I’ve ever had a repeat, I contacted them and they fully refunded my box. In all I think it’s completely worth it, I’ve almost always been happy with my samples, and would honestly recommend Play! to anyone

      1. Yeah, I like Boxycharm too much to try out anything with samples! I just don’t see the point, plus I pay $21 for boxy and I don’t want to add another $10! I think it’s cool for people who like to try before they buy though!

      2. It really is a good deal! I haven’t been too disappointed yet, which is good! I think if it’s the only one you do, then it’s really worth it!

  2. I adore all the valentine themed packaging. (: That Nars Lip Pencil hue is gorgeous, I’d revel in wearing that haha! I’m sorry you had some issues with a couple of the products this month though. xoxoxo
