Hi, guys! I hope you all are having a good week so far and a fabulous International Women’s Day! I would like to say quickly that my last post, February 2018 Monthly Favorites + Makeup Breakup, never appeared in Reader, meaning if you follow me you probably didn’t see it. So, if you haven’t seen it, I would appreciate if you read it 🙂
I posted a week or so ago about one of Wet N Wild’s new palette, Rosé in the Air, and now I’m back reviewing another palette and a brow pencil from them. Onto the reviews!
Color Icon Eyeshadow 10 Pan Palette
in Comfort Zone, $4.99 USD at Ulta.com.
Packaging:
This palette is in a black/clear plastic packaging. It feels a bit cheap and flimsy. There is no mirror. Considering the price, I’m fine with that. These palettes would be great for travel, based on the size, but I would wrap it in a ton of bubble wrap.
Used In:
Shades and Swatches:
1: Transition shade. Matte burnt orange. Meant for a transition, I find it a bit too warm to use as a transition for most looks.
2: Shimmery vanilla. Great on the brow bone and inner corner.
3: Shimmery taupe/khaki. A lovely shade, I wish it was a matte because In a sucker for a matte khaki.
4: Shimmery golden pink. Looks quite pink in the pan but applied as a mauve/light brown.
5: Shimmery dark purple. So chalky! It looks like a purple in the pan but it blends into a weird black shade with a bit of glitter here and there.
6: Shimmery light green. I really like this shade, it takes awhile to build up to a nice green though.
7: Shimmery golden brown. Love! This shade is great for so many looks, from a cut crease to an everyday look.
8: Teal/Brown duo chrome. A lot of palettes have a shade like this, but this one is very lovely. It’s one of my favorites in this palette. Quick tip – the more pressure you apply, the bluer it will be.
9: Shimmery dark green. So. Scratchy. Like the dark purple, it blends into a weird black shade with some sparkles. It’s not as bad as the purple, you could work with it, but it’s defiantly not great.
10: Transition shade. Matte mauve/brown. A really lovely shade. I don’t see myself using it as a transition much, but it is a lovely shade and blends well.
Potential Looks:
Blue/Brown Smoky Eye: 1 in the crease, 7 in the outer crease and outer lid, 8 on the lid, 2 on the brow bone, 7 on the lower lash line.
Pretty in Pink: 10 in the crease, 4 on the lid, 5 on the upper lash line, 2 on the brow bone, 2 or 3 on the inner corner.
Greener Day: 1 in the crease, 6 on the lid, 9 on upper and lower lash line, 2 on the inner corner.
Rating:
Packaging: 8/10. I’m not a fan of the packaging. It’s cheap plastic and I can tell it would be really easy to break. I wish this had a mirror as well. Considering it’s only $5, I think the packaging is fine, just overall flimsy.
Longevity: 9/10. They last well when used with an eye primer.
Pigmentation: 7.5/10. Some of the shades have amazing, creamy pigment and others (5 and 9) are chalky and just don’t look good blended. A lot of these shades would be improved when used with a bit of setting spray or water.
Blendability: 8/10. With the exception of 5 and 9, they blend great!
Color palette: 7/10. I feel like it needs another matte, it’s just kind of missing something. It’s a little all over the place but you could create a few great looks from this palette. I think you’d get better looks, more looks, using it with another palette. I just don’t find myself reaching for this palette.
Overall: 7/10. I do feel like the color palette is a little weird/different but overall I like it. It’s hard to create looks with only this palette but it is doable and it will make a good addition to my collection. If you like a few or all of the shades, get it. If you don’t like the shades, you’re not missing out on anything, I don’t think this is a must-have palette by any means. I feel like 5 and 9 kind of suck, I don’t see myself using them in the future with the exception of for the lash lines. But 1 is really an amazing shade, as are 2, 3, and 8. It’s $5 so you really can’t go wrong with this palette, but if I knew what I know now I might not have purchased it.
Dupe?
Yes! I think this is a good dupe for some of the shades in Too Faced’s Totally Cute (limited edition) palette. When I first saw Comfort Zone, I immediately thought of Totally Cute and how much I loved it.
Too Faced swatches appear on the top, Wet N Wild on the bottom.
1). Bunny Fu-Fu vs 1.
2). Shooting Star vs 2 with 4 overlay.
3). Clover vs 6.
4). Storm Cloud vs 8. Another dupe is Petrol from Makeup Revolution – SophX Ultra 24 Eyeshadow Palette, which is the third duo chrome swatch.
5). Meow vs 5. If you overlaid an eggplant eyeshadow over top it would be a close dupe.
It’s not a total dupe, but it’s the closest I’ve found palette wise for a dupe. I’ve seen Totally Cute being sold on eBay for around $15, if you’ve thought of buying Comfort Zone for a dupe, I’d sooner buy Totally Cute. Too Faced has been disappointing with products lately, I list something from them in almost every anti haul, but Totally Cute is an amazing palette.
Ultimate Brow Retractable
in Ash Brown, $3.99 at wetnwildbeauty.com.
Surprisingly I haven’t seen a single review of this product. I find that shocking considering the price and how popular brow products are. It comes in a sleek, black packaging with a spoolie on one end and triangular brow product on the other.
Used In:
Makeup Tutorial: Drugstore Anti Valentine’s Day
Collab: Valentine’s Day Makeup – Red to Dark Brown Smokey Eye
Shade and Swatch:
Ash Brown – a neutral light/medium brown. This will be great for people with dark blonde hair to medium brown hair.
They offer 4 shades right now – Taupe, Ash Brown, Medium Brown and Dark Brown.
Rating:
Packaging: 9/10. It’s a bit bulky/big, but I am used to micro brow pencils so perhaps it’s just me. Otherwise, I think it’s great. It has a spoolie on one end, it’s great. The other end has the product. Both sides have caps and it is in a sleek black packaging.
Longevity: 8.5/10. This product is very creamy, which is great for application, but it will fade a bit quicker than a drier formula. I think it lasts well but I would want to touch up after 8 hours or so if I was going out.
Ease of use: 8/10. The first few times I used this it was a bit hard to use, I believe it was just because I’m used to micro brow pencils and the shape is quite different. After those few times, the pencil became very easy and effortless to use.
Pigmentation: 7.5/10. This isn’t the most pigmented pencil in the world but by no means does it lack pigment, it’s just something you’ll need to build.
Blendability: 9/10. This blends beautifully! Just go easy on the blending because it blends very easily and it is easy to over blend.
Shade: 9/10. Ash Brown is my perfect color! One of the reasons I love this pencil so much is because of how wonderful the shade is. Not too warm, not too cool. If you have a similar complexion to me and brown hair, I’d recommend the same shade. The only reason I’m not giving this a 10 is because they only offer 4 shades right now, Taupe, Ash Brown, Medium Brown and Dark Brown. This is a new release so they probably wanted to launch it before adding more shades, but I think at the minimum they should have included an auburn shade. I think they should add a blonde and an ebony after that.
Overall: 8/10. I really like this brow pencil and have been using it nearly every day! I do recommend this to anyone who fills in their brows. This does not offer the pigmentation or preciseness when using a micro pencil, however, it is a good product. If you prefer a micro pencil, you might want to pass on this.
Dupe?
I have not personally tried it, but this appears to be a good dupe for Anastasia Beverly Hills – Brow Definer.
Overall, I do like all of these products and I’m excited to try more new products from Wet N Wild! So now to you, what do you think of these products? Which of these or other new products from Wet N Wild would you try?
