Play! by Sephora – March 2018 (Unboxing and Review)

Hi, guys!  I hope you all are well today. For today’s post, as you can tell from the title, I’m unboxing and reviewing March’s Play! box. Before the review, I would like to say that I’m not posting a review of February, because it just seems way too late to make a post dedicated to it. If you’d like to know my thoughts on the products, there’s a brief, to the point, mini-review at the end of this post. Without further ado, here’s my review!

This months bag is a really soft, denimesque drawstring bag. It contains 5 deluxe sample products and a bonus product. Play! is $10.00 USD plus tax per month. The theme this month is festival, just in time for all the festivals this spring. To learn more about Play!, click here.

Verb – Ghost Oil™, $16.00 USD.

From Sephora.com:

“What it is:
A transparent, restorative hair oil that revitalizes hair from roots to ends.

What it is formulated to do:
Ghost Oil™ features an integrated moringa oil blend that coats the hair shaft with essential nutrients. This transparent oil prevents color change to lighter hair colors, naturally smooths frizz, and delivers a radiant shine to all hair types.”

I’ve received this hair oil in a previous box, but I like the oil so that’s okay. I do hope that repeats don’t start becoming a habit with Play!. I do like this out and I think it makes my hair look really healthy, enhances my color and curls, and reduces frizz. I really like it but I don’t see myself buying a full size because there’s a drugstore oil I like just as much.

Buxom – Plumpline Lip Liner in Hush Hush, $17.00 USD.

IMG_4887

From Sephora.com:

“What it is:
An all-in-one plumping lip liner with a built-in brush to define, contour, and fill lips.

What it does:
This versatile liner plumps, lines, and defines lips to their fullest. It includes a built-in brush to color, blend, and contour effortlessly. It’s creamy and pigmented enough to wear alone or as a base for perfect, plumped lips.”

I like this lipliner but I don’t think it’s much different from other wood lip pencils. The color is very pretty, it does wear well, it is creamy. I don’t think this plumps my lips but you can easily overline with this product. The brush on this makes this product really unique, I’ve never seen a liner with a brush before! It’s quite stiff but does blend the product out well. Overall I like this pencil but it’s not much different from a drugstore liner like this. It’s a bit creamier than drugstore. The brush is fine but kind of seems like an unnecessary afterthought. I will use and enjoy this but I wouldn’t buy a full size.

SEPHORA COLLECTION – 8 HR Mattifying Compact Foundation in 16 Linen, $20.00 USD.

IMG_4890

From Sephora.com:

“What it is:
An oil-free compact foundation that mattifies skin completely for up to eight hours and ensures a shine-free finish all day long.”

I was really excited to see this because I’ve been looking for a good mattifying powder (besides Stay Matte). I do feel like it helps with shine control but the shade is really, really weird. It’s like a banana powder. I have a yellow undertone but it’s really yellow. It’s brightening but also a bit dark for me. Overall I think the shade is weird but I feel like I need to test it a bit more, formula wise.

Lancôme – Miel-En-Mousse Foaming Cleansing Makeup Remover with Acacia Honey, $40.00 USD

IMG_4892

From Sephora.com:

“What it is:
A two-in-one foaming face cleanser and makeup remover with acacia honey.

Solutions for:
– Dryness

If you want to know more…
Miel-en-Mousse Foaming Cleansing Makeup Remover is formulated with acacia honey and has a transformative texture for sensorial facial cleanser and makeup removal. Upon application, the honey-like texture captures makeup and impurities. Once emulsified with water, it transforms into a velvety mousse, leaving skin feeling cleansed and soft.”

I don’t feel strongly one way or another towards this cleanser. It removes my makeup well but I really dislike that I can’t use it to remove my eye makeup as well. I am happy that it hasn’t broken me out, so based on that I would say it’s good for sensitive skin! I feel like this does help with dryness a bit but my skin isn’t that dry, to begin with. Also, I never saw it turn into a “velvety mousse”. Overall it’s a fine cleanser but I have others I like better.

Murad – Invisiblur™ Perfecting Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 30 PA+++, $65.00 USD.

IMG_4894

From Sephora.com:

“What it is:
An innovative antiaging treatment, primer, and invisible SPF that immediately blurs and protects while combating the signs of aging.

Solutions for:
– Fine lines and wrinkles
– Dullness and uneven texture”

This is another item that I’m not really sure how I feel about. I was really excited to receive it because 1) SPF is really important and I’m always up to try new ones. 2) I’ve never tried Murad but I’ve heard so many good things about their products. That being said, I’m a bit disappointed because I don’t love it or like it. It’s not greasy but it wants to be. If you are familiar with the texture of Maybelline’s Baby Skin primer this primer is very similar to that but much less greasy. It hasn’t broken my sensitive skin out, so that’s good. I haven’t used this a ton under makeup but when I did I felt like my makeup didn’t work into my skin as well. I didn’t notice it helping any fine lines or making them worse. All together I’ll use this a few more times but at this point, I’m not impressed and I don’t think it’s worth the money.

Ouai – Anti-Frizz Hair Sheets, $18.00 USD

IMG_4884

This months bonus item. I really dislike this. You’d be better off with water, hairspray or a dryer sheet. This is just an oily mess. I like other items from the brand but this is a hard pass.

Altogether, not my favorite month, but I am happy with what I received and as always, I am excited about this months box! What do you guys think of this box? Have you tried any of these items? Let me know in the comments and thanks for reading!

Play! by Sephora – February 2018

belif – Moisturizing Eye Bomb $48.00 USD.

I really like this eye cream. It leaves your undereye really hydrated for a very long time. If you have dry under eyes, I would definitely try this! This didn’t do anything for my dark circles but it did help fine lines.

Laura Mercier – Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Rose Gold, $29.00 USD.

I don’t love it, I don’t hate it. I don’t really ever reach for it, but it’s nice. I wouldn’t buy a full size.

SEPHORA COLLECTION – Rouge Matte Lipstick in Rebel Chic, $12.50 USD.

This arrived broken, fell on the floor, so it was contaminated. I didn’t try this because I didn’t feel like it was worth going to the trouble of sanitizing.

NARS – Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Let’s Go Crazy, $27.00 USD.

This lip pencil is very, very nice. It is a bit drying but that is easy to resolve. I don’t really ever wear pink colors but it is a nice pink. If you haven’t tried one of these pencils I would recommend them, I really like the shade Cruella (dark red).

Peter Thomas Roth – FIRMx™ Peeling Gel, $48.00 USD.

I love this peeling gel! I never knew gels like these existed before trying this product. It removals dead skin and leaves a really beautiful complexion. I also feel like after doing this, the night day that I put on makeup the makeup wears better.

I ended up seeing Beauty Banter (see post here) post about a dupe for this product, the dupe is Skinfood Pineapple Peeling Gel. After reading that I bought it and they are very much alike, but PTR is more firming. That being said, I really love the Skinfood gel and would recommend that if you are on a budget.
