Make Up For Ever – Water Blend Foundation Review

Hi, guys! I hope you all are well today. Today we are talking about Make Up For Ever’s Water Blend foundation. Around two months ago, I had my makeup done at Sephora. It was amazing. One of my favorite parts of my makeup was the foundation. What did the makeup artist use? Water Blend. So of course, I had to buy it and try it out for myself.

Water Blend is very thin and offers light coverage. Personally, I am not a light coverage person. I like medium to full coverages. That is where this foundation blows me away. It is so lightweight, light coverage, thin, but it really gives you such a flawless finish. It’s a your skin but better foundation. It never looks cakey. It does not emphasize dry spots, pores or fine lines.

I think this foundation is best for dry, normal, combination and slightly oily skin. I think dry skin will really love this because of the dewy yet natural finish. If you are really oily, I would pass on this or get a sample before buying a full size. Perhaps it would work well with a mattifying primer.

When I wear this foundation, I don’t really feel like I need a full coverage foundation. I feel good about my skin. Sometimes I do add/layer a medium coverage foundation to my cheeks because I have a lot of redness.

I wear shade Y245 Soft Sand, It matches my skin shade/tone pretty perfectly. They offer 20 shades on the Sephora and Make Up For Ever website. I think it’s a great range of shades and tones, I feel like everyone will have a shade. If you can’t decide between two shades, I recommend going for the darker shade.

HOW I APPLY:

I start by applying a primer all over my face. I use the Real Techniques – Setting Brush to apply this foundation. I start applying this foundation using downward strokes on my nose and cheeks then I work my way outwards. I set my T-zone with a pressed or loose powder, finish my makeup and set with Urban Decay – All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray.

RATINGS:

Packaging: 9.5/10. Fabulous! It’s a frosted, glass bottle with a pump. It’s beautiful and I think it works perfectly for the foundation. The only reason it isn’t a 10 is that I find the bottle to be heavy.

Application: 10/10. Easy peasy, it blends so easily! You can build this up from very sheer to light coverage without it becoming cakey. It’s just really easy to apply. I can usually get a light coverage out of 2 pumps, give or take. I have not tried it for the body, so I have no review, thoughts or opinions on that.

Longevity: 8/10. This is not a long-wearing foundation. By no means does it start falling apart at the end of the day, but it does fade. It fades very gracefully, but it does fade. If I don’t wear a primer, it starts fading pretty hardcore after 6 hours. If I wear a primer, it will last about 10 hours before it starts fading hardcore. I am more than happy with that. When it starts fading it never looks bad, but it does reduce from a light coverage to a sheer coverage, you know what I mean.

Overall: 9/10. I’m in love with this foundation. I think it’s amazing! I love it so much that I want it in my professional kit, and that’s the biggest compliment I can give a product. This foundation doesn’t have an overwhelming fragrance, but it definitely has a fragrance. That’s pretty much my biggest ‘con’. I just really love this foundation. I love the finish, coverage, nearly everything. This is a pricey foundation, especially when you look at it as 80 percent water, but I think it’s worth every penny.

MY TIPS:

Apply with a brush. The makeup artist at Sephora shared this with me and I’m passing it on to you. This foundation is 80% water. Cosmetic sponges soak up water, so of course, using a sponge would compromise the integrity of the foundation. Circular motions are fine, but I think using downward strokes looks best. My favorite brush for applying is the Real Techniques – Setting Brush. This brush is perfect for applying it. The classic, flat foundation brushes work well too.

Shake, shake, shake! Again, 80% water. It’s always important to shake foundation but with Water Blend, it’s a must. Shake it like your shaking hair dye or a drink. I’ve seen many reviews, the majority of bad reviews describe issues that happen because they didn’t shake it.

Wear a primer underneath. Primers are great for any foundation but I feel like this foundation really wears best with a primer. It will make the foundation last longer and wear off better. I have an oily nose and after a few hours foundation will start to come off and my skin will peak through. However, if I wear a primer like my trusty Urban Decay – Optical Illusion Complexion Primer, it lasts longer and doesn’t start peaking through. I recommend one that has a slight tint, like Optical Illusion. It just wears better.

  1. I really struggle to find foundations that don’t cling to dry patches or look cakey and this foundation sounds amazing! The fact that it has a dewy/natural finish is even better. I love how you shared tips on how to use the foundation! 🙂
