Hi, guys! Welcome to today’s post. Today, we are talking about Make-Up Designory’s Leading Lady kit. If you’ve never heard of this brand, Make-Up Designory (also known as MUD) is a professional cosmetic brand. Learn more about Make-Up Designory by clicking here.
A few months ago I went to an open house for an esthetic college, the school supplies students with products from MUD and everyone raved about them. I hadn’t heard about the brand before that so they sparked my interest. At the open house, they had a few giveaways, one giveaway was this kit and I was lucky enough to win it. Immediately I wanted to write a review about it because I’ve never heard about MUD and I figured the majority of you guys probably hadn’t either as it’s not a popular brand. That being said, I have no idea why. Based on my experience with this kit, they have really good products and they are underrated. Continue reading to see all of my thoughts on this kit 🙂
Disclaimer: I won this kit in a giveaway. That does not affect my opinion of this product.
Leading Lady Kit, $39.00 USD
The Basics: Say hello to romance with MUD’s Leading Lady Kit. This special collection of pro products delivers show-stopping glamour that’s close-up ready. Make a dramatic entrance with four flattering, vibrantly pigmented Eye Colors that offer long-lasting color, and can be used dry or wet for a more intense look. Pucker up with an emollient rich, non-drying Satin Lipstick that leaves lips feeling soft and supple. This long-lasting classic red shade has a smooth, opaque matte finish – for the perfect pout.
What’s in the kit: Lady Bug Satin Lipstick, 4-Hole Eye Color Empty Palette filled with Apricot, Taupe, Espresso, and Honeysuckle Eye Colors. Eye Colors retail for $8 USD ea. Satin Lipstick retails for $16.00 USD ea. The Empty Palette retails for $12.00 USD ea. The total value of this kit is $60.00 USD.
An iridescent pale gold eyeshadow. Pretty on the brow bone, inner corner or lid. Almost gives a wet look.
A peach matte eyeshadow. Not very opaque, but buildable. Good for canceling out discoloration.
A neutral medium brown eyeshadow. A true taupe, this makes a great transition.
A dark, rich brown eyeshadow. A very rich brown eyeshadow.
An intense red color lipstick with a slight blue undertone. A true red.
In the picture below I am wearing Lady Bug lipstick and the eyeshadow palette. Taupe in the crease, blended well. Expresso in the crease and outer corner, blended. Apricot on the lid. Honeysuckle on the inner corner and over Apricot.
Packaging: 9/10. Reminds me of MAC lipstick packing. It’s very classic and sleek.
Opaqueness: 9/10. This is a one swipe application lipstick. It is very creamy and pigmented.
Application: 8.5/10. Easy. It’s one swipe and the lipstick bullet is somewhat precise. You’ll probably want to use a lip liner to have a perfect line.
Longevity: 7/10. The longevity disappoints me. MUD describes the lipstick as “emollient rich”, it’s a great way to describe it because it is so creamy and easy to apply but it wants to slick off. In other words, extremely non-transfer proof. It wears off after a few hours of wear, it also leaves a stain. If you want to wear this lipstick you’ll need to touch it up during the day.
Color: 10/10. Lady Bug is a really beautiful true red. It’s lovely and goes with nearly any look. If you like this color but don’t like satin lipstick formulas, Ciaté London – Liquid Velvet™ – Moisturizing Matte Liquid Lipstick in Diva is almost identical. While this is a beautiful red, it’s nothing new, there are many reds like this on the market.
Overall: 8/10. The color is beautiful and it’s easy to apply. The only real con is that is isn’t long-wearing. Overall, I think there are better options for a lower price but it is a good lipstick.
Eye Colors and palette
Packaging: 10/10. I love the packaging of this palette. It is really small and thin but very sturdy. This palette has a mirror so I think it would be perfect for travel. On the outside, the palette is grey (like the inside) and has the MUD logo on the front. Each of the Eye Colors arrives in single packaging. They are magnetic so you can put them in this palette or any other magnetic palette.
Colors: 9/10. This palette has four colors and they all compliment each other. Each color is unique even though they are more “basic” shades. While they seem like basic shades, they all have a pizazz to them. Taupe, in particular, is amazing.
Longevity: 9/10. When worn with an eyeshadow primer or concealer, these last on me all day, crease free.
Formula: 10/10. This formula is amazing. I would say it is similar to the matte formula in the Morphe 35O2 palette. They blend so easily, they don’t have fallout, they are just so good. I can’t find a fault in the formula. Each eyeshadow is good for 18 months.
Overall: 9.5/10. These are $8 USD which is a bit expensive but if you’re buying in a kit like this it’s not bad. They are definitely worth it. I keep this palette in my main makeup bag because of how often I use it. They are eyeshadows that I want to stock in my pro kit and I think that says a lot. I think everyone should try at least one of these shadows. If you do, I recommend Taupe. It’s my favorite. I will definitely be ordering more shadows/products from MUD.
Without a doubt, I recommend trying Make-Up Designory. Everything I tried in this kit was good and the eyeshadows are some of the best I’ve ever tried.
