Play! by Sephora – July Follow Up Review

Hi, guys! Welcome or welcome back to the blog. Today, we are talking about Play! by Sephora’s July box, and all my thoughts on the items. I haven’t posted much lately because I’ve felt extremely uninspired (can I blame it on Mercury being in Retrograde?), but a few days ago I got an email that August’s box had shipped, so I’ve decided it is officially time to kick myself out of the funk. So here I am, slightly out of said funk, read to tell you all about these products, and hopefully resuming my regular posting schedule.

If you haven’t heard of Play! before… Play! by Sephora is a monthly beauty box, it retails for $10 USD. Currently, it is only offered in the USA. In each box, you will receive 5 deluxe samples (haircare, skincare, makeup, etc) and one bonus sample (typically a perfume). You will with also receive a drawstring bag, a pamphlet explaining the products you’ve received, and a 50 point Play! a pass which can be redeemed in-store with a full-size purchase.

tarte – Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Paaarty, $29.00 USD

“What it is:
An award-winning powder blush with long-wearing Amazonian clay, so pigment looks freshly applied all day.

What it does:
This super soft, silky powder contains true-color mineral pigments that let you layer on your glow with no harsh lines or chalky build-up. tarte’s signature Amazonian clay helps control oil and infuse moisture for balanced skin and seamless blending. The magnetized pan lets you pop your favorite shade from its compact to create a custom palette.”

I’m crazy in love with Tarte’s blushes – this is no exception. It’s not my favorite shade by tarte but it is very nice. The formula, like all tarte blushes, is amazing. Blendable, buildable, longlasting. Amazing.

tarte – Deep Dive Cleansing Gel Rainforest of the Sea™, $25.00 USD

“What it is:
A daily brightening face cleanser and waterproof makeup remover.

What it is formulated to do:
– Hypoallergenic and vegan face wash
– Removes excess oil, impurities, and waterproof makeup
– Leaves skin super-soft and hydrated
– Formulated with lavender, vitamin C, and antioxidant-rich algae
– Sulfate- and artificial fragrance-free”

I’ve tried this before and I remember not being crazy about it. Surprisingly, this time around, I really like it! I think it cleanses well and it has a really nice, refreshing citrus scent. It also left my skin feeling hydrated. I have a gel cleanser that I’m already crazy about so I don’t think I’ll pick up a full size, but it is a great cleanser.

tarte – Color Splash Lipstick – Rainforest of the Sea™ Collection in Salt Lyfe (mauve gray), $21.00 USD

“What it is:
A long-wearing, moisture-rich, full-coverage lipstick in an array of creamy shades.

What it does:
Color Splash Lipstick is hydrating, pigmented, long-wearing, and delivers full-coverage color. It conditions lips while coating them in intense pigment that won’t feather or bleed. It’s formulated with antioxidant-rich algae to help lips look firmer, fuller, and smoother.”

This is my second shade of tarte’s Color Splash lipstick, and it is as lovely as the first. The formula is great, long wearing, very moisturizing, and very pigmented. The shade is almost identical to Candy Man from L’oreal. I like the shade ‘Set Sail’ a lot better, but ‘Salt Lyfe’ is still very nice.

Drunk Elephant – Protini™ Polypeptide Cream, $68.00 USD

“What it is:
A breakthrough protein moisturizer that combines an unprecedented array and concentration of actives for improvement in the appearance of skin’s tone, texture, and firmness.

Solutions for:
– Loss of firmness and elasticity
– Dryness
– Dullness and uneven texture”

I think this moisturizer is really lovely and great for dry or dehydrated skin. After each use my skin felts smoother, moisturized, and it did make a difference in uneven texture. I don’t think I would pay nearly $70 for the full size, but I definitely enjoyed using this product and would recommend it to anyone with dry or dehydrated skin.

Briogeo – Blossom & Bloom™ Ginseng + Biotin Volumizing Spray, $20.00 USD

“What it is:
A dual-action spray that immediately creates fuller-looking hair and visibly enhances strand’s thickness over time.

Key benefits:
– Immediately adds volume
– Encourages long-term growth
– Extends time between washes”

I really like Briogeo and I like this product. I agree that it creates a fuller look, I haven’t noticed a difference in ‘stand’s thickness’. My mom tried this and she likes it too, so I’ve given it to her as she can use it more and see more benefits.

boscia – MATCHA Magic Super-Antioxidant Mask $38.00 USD

“What it is:
An antioxidant magic-maker that feeds your skin a multitude of skin health benefits including reducing redness and inflammation caused by environmental free radical damage—detoxifying, decongesting, and de-stressing your skin with the antioxidant power of matcha green tea.

Solutions for:
– Oiliness
– Redness”

I’m a big fan of this mask! I feel it did reduce some redness and I think it would make a big difference over time.

Overall, I’m really happy with this months box! Have you tried any of these items? Are you subscribed to Play!? Have you already gotten August’s Play! box? Let me know and thanks for reading!

  1. The only product I have from Tarte is their powder and I bloody love it, I keep meaning to buy more from them but as they are a more expensive brand I always put it off ;/ Looks great though 🙂

  2. Thanks for sharing the box with us! Salt lyfe looks so different when on my lips (it comes off almost pale pink) which is such a pity because I REALLY wanted to love it. And wow I didn’t know tarte blushes were so good, gonna have to go try them out soon! hehe!

    1. Thank you for reading! 🙂 I’m sad to hear it didn’t work out great. I like it but if I apply too much it can look a bit funky. I probably sound like a crazy lady when I talk about the blushes but they really are so good and worth trying!
