Hi, guys! Welcome to today’s post. As you can tell from the title, we are talking all about Play!’s latest box, August. I received this in the mail yesterday, so here I am to show you guys what I got in this months box. This months theme is “Beauty Schooled”, which as a beauty school drop out graduate I love. I have a pretty good feeling about everything in this months box as well, so without further ado,
For anyone subscribed for over 6 months, they received an email with a coupon for a free Custom Makeover ($50 value) (yay!!!). Already checking my calendar.

Benefit Cosmetics – Hoola Matte Bronzer, $29 USD for 0.28 oz (standard size)
From Sephora.com:
“What it is:
An award-winning, matte bronzer for a sunkissed glow. What it does:
Dust on Benefit Cosmetics’ iconic Hoola Matte Bronzer across the chin, cheeks, and forehead for a healthy, natural-looking tan that flatters any skin tone. Complete with a soft, natural-bristle cheek brush, it delivers pure matte color—without leaving behind shine or shimmer. It’s ideal for fair complexions or for use as an all over finishing powder, and it instantly warms your complexion, leaving you with a healthy-looking, believable glow year round. The finely milled matte bronzer blends on smoothly and seamlessly.”
I really like Hoola. I bought it this time last year in a gift set and was obsessed with it for quite some time. Butter Bronzer from Physicians Formula has since taken its place but I’m happy to try it again and I needed a replacement anyways.
A swatch is at the end of this post.
MAKE UP FOR EVER – Artist Rouge Lipstick in C211 – Rose Wood, $22.00 USD for 0.12 oz
From Sephora.com
“What it is:
An innovative, bold lipstick that provides long-wearing, show-stopping color and endless creamy comfort. What it does:
Now saturated with 25 percent more pigment than the original Rouge Artist, Artist Rouge Lipstick brings bold color impact to lips that make a statement. This extremely pigmented formula not only provides intense, opaque color but boasts an ultra-creamy, non-drying formula that hydrates the lips for ultimate comfort. Its unique, precision shaped bullet allows for easy, defined application while the long wear formula will not bleed or feather. Artist Rouge is a bold collection that is professionally curated to include the most flattering shades across all color families—with a perfect match for each and every skin tone. It features two finishes: a matte for an ultra-matte yet velvety finish that won’t feel dry and a cream for intense color with a natural-looking, creamy finish.”
I am probably most excited about this item. This is a unique dark, nude mauve. Just based on swatching it feels extremely pigmented and creamy. I’ve tried a different color from this line, I liked it a lot, so I have really high hopes.

Anastasia Beverly Hills – Brow Gel in Clear, 0.28 oz for $22.00 USD
From Sephora.com
“What it is:
A clear gel for all hair colors that sets, defines, and holds brows in place all day. What it does:
This long-wearing clear gel sets and defines brows without fuss. The soothing chamomile formula also conditions hair and offers a lustrous, natural look.”
Play! sent me this ages ago and I recall really disliking it. I really hated that it felt like my brows were glued down, but at least it had/had staying power. Fingers crossed I like it better than last time.
Living proof – T.B.D. Multi-Tasking Styler, 5 oz for $26.00 USD
From Sephora.com
“What it is:
A versatile styler that can be used on damp or dry hair, allowing you to tame, blowout, or deconstruct hair.Key benefits:
– Tames and grooms dry hair
– Smooths for polished blowouts
– Creates definition on dry hair”
Play! has sent out several samples from Living Proof in the recent months, I’ve been fairly happy with all of them, so I’m happy to see this. I would have preferred an anti frizz or curl enhancer, but maybe this will anyway. I never blow dry my hair so I’ll be trying this on dry hair ASAP.
Origins – Original Skin™ Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay, 3.4oz for $28.00 USD
From Sephora.com
“What it is:
A two-in-one purifying mask that draws out impurities and gently exfoliates to refine skin’s texture and boost radiance.Solutions for:
– Oiliness
– Pores
– Dullness and uneven textureIf you want to know more…
Made with Mediterranean rose clay, Canadian willowherb, and exfoliating jojoba beads, it helps gently deep clean while refining skin’s texture. Pores appear to vanish and clarity is restored for a radiant youthful-looking complexion that’s silky-smooth to the touch.”
I am so excited about this item! Play! sent Origins Charcoal Mask this time last year and I love it, so I have really high hopes for this mask. Rose/rosewater in skincare has been my thing lately, so make that extra, extra excited.
This months bonus:
Ouai – VOLUME Shampoo $28.00 USD for 10 oz and Ouai – VOLUME Conditioner $26.00 USD for 8.45 oz
From Sephora.com:
“Key benefits:
– Adds body and volume
– Lifts lifeless hair
– Creates a full-bodied look”
This isn’t pictured due to using them before taking pictures, whoops! I used them last night and I think they’re fine. My hair feels very clean but I don’t notice a difference in body or volume.
Swatches:

Totally envious of that box. The brands in there can prove quite expensive and I can’t believe you only pay 10 bucks for that box. Too bad it’s only in the US 😦

That’s a really good box! I’ve been thinking of signing up for a subscription box, but I’m not sure which one… The Sephora Play! boxes always look so fun, and are totally affordable.

Yes! I think you’d like it. Boxycharm is a good one too, or so I’ve heard. I think it’s $21 but the value is like $100+ because you get 4-6 full size products
